ADA Title II deadline calculator

Answer four questions and get every deadline that applies to your entity, with the citation for each. The whole table is below either way.

Both federal rules are interim final rules. A legal challenge is pending.

Your entity

Answer four questions to narrow the table below to the rows that apply to you.

Your deadlines will appear here

Answer the questions and choose “Show my deadlines”. Every deadline that applies is listed, most urgent first, with its citation.

The full table below is the same information, unfiltered.

Every deadline, with its citation

These dates come from the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II rule and from Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Each is cited to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and to the Federal Register (FR) notice behind it; HHS is the Department of Health and Human Services.

What this tool does not do

  • It does not tell you whether you are covered. It tells you which published deadline matches the entity type you selected.
  • It does not tell you that you are exempt. There is no input that produces “no deadline applies”, and there never will be.
  • It is not legal advice and it is not a determination. A tool that tells a city it is exempt, and is wrong, has created a problem for both of us.
  • Two entities of the same type and size can have different obligations because of what they do and who funds them.
  • Dates change. Colorado SB24-205 was delayed twice, challenged in court, enjoined, then repealed and replaced within eleven days — without ever being in effect for a single day.

The product records an exception your team claims, with a written justification and who claimed it, and prints those claims in the evidence packet. It never applies one automatically, and neither does this page.

Where these dates come from

28 CFR 35.200
The codified requirement. Standard: WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA.
91 FR 20902
The interim final rule of 20 April 2026 that moved the Title II dates.
45 CFR 84.84(b) · 91 FR 25496
The Section 504 rule, and the interim final rule of 11 May 2026 that moved its dates.
Colorado HB21-1110
Grace period expired 1 July 2025. Private right of action; $3,500 statutory damages per violation.

Every date on this page is stored as data with an effective date, not written into code, and each one carries the date we last reviewed it. Reviewed .

Questions we are asked

The deadline moved. Can the work wait?

The dates moved. The obligation did not. The extension does not suspend existing ADA obligations and does not eliminate litigation risk during the extension period, and a federal court has already held that pending technical standards do not dispose of a state government’s program accessibility requirements.

What is an interim final rule?

A rule that takes effect without the usual comment-before-effect sequence, with comments taken afterwards. It can be revised or replaced. A challenge to this one is pending, which is why the status is printed beside every date on this page.

Does a library district use its own population or the county’s?

A special district of any size has the 26 April 2028 date, so the population does not change the answer. It may still change what a state obligation requires.

Is a charter school a public entity?

That depends on how the school is constituted in its own state, and it is a question for its counsel rather than for this page. A school that is a public entity, or that carries out a programme of one, is covered by Title II. A school that receives federal financial assistance is covered by Section 504 whichever answer the first question has. Both sets of rows are in the table above.

What happens on the deadline?

The requirement applies. Nothing is issued, no certificate exists, and no tool — including ours — can tell you that you have met it. What you can hold is a record of what was tested, what was fixed, who verified it and what remains open.

We already work to WCAG 2.2. Which standard applies?

The rule names WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA, and that is the standard the deadline is measured against. WCAG 2.2 adds success criteria to 2.1 rather than replacing them, with one removal — 4.1.1 Parsing, which W3C marked obsolete in 2.1 as well — so work done to 2.2 Level AA is work done to the standard the rule names. A conformance claim still states 2.1 Level AA, because that is what 28 CFR 35.200 cites.
